The province of Iloilo now has nearly nine thousand cases of dengue, according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
From January 1 to September 4 this year, PHO logged 8,775 cases of the mosquito-borne disease, including 23 deaths.
The total number was higher by 622 percent compared to 1,216 cases recorded in the same period last year.
The highest number of cases in the province was reported in Passi City at 613. Oton came in second with 500 cases, followed by Calinog, 382; Leon, 363; and Dingle, 358.
Barotac Nuevo was number six with 340 dengue cases, followed by Janiuay, 336; Dumangas, 325; Lambunao, 284; and Santa Barbara, 270.
Of the fatalities, four were from Barotac Nuevo, two each from Passi City, Miagao, Badiangan, Igbaras, and Concepcion; and one each from San Dionisio, Sara, Banate, Estancia and Guimbal.
The entire province is currently under a state of calamity due to the outbreak of dengue.IMT
