The number of dengue cases in the province of Iloilo has reached more than 1,000, data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed.
PHO logged a total of 1,128 dengue cases from January 1 to March 22 this year, higher by 77 percent compared to 635 cases in the same period last year.
The cases this year include seven deaths from the towns of Pototan (2), Carles (2), Oton (1), Tigbauan (1), and Balasan (1).
San Juaquin registered the highest number of dengue cases in the province at 85, followed by Oton (70), Leon (66), Cabatuan (51) and Dumangas (50).
According to PHO, most of the cases belong to the 1 to 9 age group.
Dengue is transmitted through the bite of an Aedes mosquito, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Its symptoms include sudden onset of fever for two to seven days and at least two of the following: headache, body weakness, joint and muscle pains, pain behind the eyes, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea and skin rashes.IMT
