The number of dengue cases in the province of Iloilo has reached more than 350 since January this year, the highest in Western Visayas.
The Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) of the Department of Health (DOH-6) logged a total of 353 cases, including one death, from January 1 to March 2, 2024.
Aklan recorded the the second highest number of cases at 224, followed by Negros Occidental with 188, Capiz with 183, Antique with 144, Iloilo City, 120, Guimaras, 63, and Bacolod City with 27.
All in all, the region registered 1,302 dengue cases with two deaths. Of the number, 40 percent belonged to the 1-10 age group.
Dengue is transmitted through the bite of an Aedes mosquito, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Its symptoms include sudden onset of fever for two to seven days and at least two of the following: headache, body weakness, joint and muscle pains, pain behind the eyes, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea and skin rashes.IMT
