The province of Iloilo registered a 58 percent increase in the number of dengue cases in the first month of the year compared to the same period in 2024.

From January 1 to February 1, 2025, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) logged 385 dengue cases, higher compared 244 cases last year.

The latest figure includes four deaths from the towns of Oton (1), Pototan (2) and Carles (1).

Cabatuan logged the highest cases in the province at 22, followed by Oton, Leon and San Joaquin with 21 each, Dumangas with 19,  Barotac Viejo with 16, and Estancia with 15.

Banate, Janiuay and Santa Barbara recorded 13 dengue cases each, followed by Passi City, Lambunao, Pavia and Tigbauan with 12 cases each and San Dionisio and Sara with 9 cases each.

PHO head Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares – Quiñon advised residents to keep their sorroundings clean and destroy possible breeding sites of the dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

She also told them to seek immediate consultation if they exhibit symptoms of dengue for proper medical attention.

Dengue symptoms include sudden onset of fever for two to seven days and at least two of the following: headache, body weakness, joint and muscle pains, pain behind the eyes, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea and skin rashes.IMT
