Cases of dengue in the province of Iloilo went up by 76.9 percent in the first three months of 2025 compared to the same period a year ago.
The Provincial Health Office (PHO) registered a total of 803 dengue cases from January 1 to March 1 this year. The number includes six deaths.
“Based on the epidemic curve, the number of cases in Iloilo remains above the outbreak level,” said Dr. Rodney Labis, head of PHO’s Service Delivery Division.
The provincial government, according to Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., has adequate funds to support its efforts in mitigating the surge of dengue cases.
Defensor said health facilities in the province have dengue test kits, intravenous fluids and vacant hospital beds.
Dengue, which mainly affects children, is transmitted through the bite of an Aedes mosquito, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Its symptoms include sudden onset of fever for two to seven days and at least two of the following: headache, body weakness, joint and muscle pains, pain behind the eyes, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea and skin rashes.IMT
