A total of 11 people have died of dengue fever in the province of Iloilo since January this year, according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
PHO recorded 1,212 dengue cases, including the deaths, from January 1 to July 16. The number was higher by 379 percent compared to 253 cases with one death in the same period a year ago.
Of the fatalities, two each were from Guimbal and Miagao and one each from Dumangas, Passi City, Sta. Barbara, Dingle, Barotac Viejo, Igbaras, and Leganes.
San Joaquin accounted for most or 342 dengue cases in the province, followed by Oton, 114; Tubungan, 101; Guimbal, 100; Banate, 74; Dumangas, 70; Miagao, 67; Pototan, 60; Tigbauan, 42; and Pavia, 33.
Last month, San Joaquin declared a state of calamity due to the continuous increase in cases of the mosquito-borne disease.
Clustering of cases were reported in 59 barangays. This means that these places have more than two cases.IMT
