The declaration of a dengue outbreak in Iloilo City has been lifted.

According to Dr. Annabelle Tang, officer-in-charge (OIC) of the City Health Office (CHO), the number of dengue cases in the metropolis is declining.

“Per cases for two consecutive weeks, we are already below the epidemic threshold,” she said.

But Tang assured that they would not be complacent.

“We need to continue anti-dengue activities in schools and barangays particularly regular clean-up drive to rid of mosquito breeding places,” she said.

In July last year, Mayor Jerry Treñas issued an executive order declaring the outbreak.

In the same month, the City Council approved a resolution declaring a state of calamity due to the increasing number of dengue cases in the city.

The CHO, meanwhile, said it is looking for “13 more doctors to boost health operations especially against dengue which has been widespread every year.”

Recently, the city government hired additional nurses and medical technologists “to cater to the urgent medical needs of dengue patients.”IMT
