All dengue patients admitted in hospitals managed by the Iloilo Provincial Government are entitled to free medical services.

Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, head of the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO), patients battling dengue have nothing to worry about in terms of hospitalization.

The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth), according to Quiñon, will shoulder their hospital expenses.

The state health insurer covers up to P47,000 for severe dengue cases, while mild cases receive P19, 500 in coverage.

Quiñon urged the public not to hesitate to go to hospitals once they experience symptoms of dengue to prevent complications.

Currently, the provincial government oversees the operations of 12 district hospitals and the Iloilo Provincial Hospital.

As of Feb. 15 this year, IPHO has recorded 592 cases of dengue. The number includes five deaths from Pototan (2), Carles (1), Tigbauan (1) and Oton (1).

According to the World Health Organization, dengue virus is transmitted to humans through the bites of infected female mosquitoes, primarily the Aedes aegypti mosquito.IMT
