The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has committed to announcing the suspension of government work and classes a day before a typhoon’s expected arrival.
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla made the statement after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. authorized the agency to announce the suspension amid an incoming weather disturbance.
Such authority could be exercised by the DILG if the Office of the President has not issued a suspension notice.
In a Palace press briefing on Tuesday, Nov. 12, Remulla explained that when he was Cavite governor he announced work and class suspensions a day ahead of a typhoon’s landfall.
He said the he would follow the same approach as DILG chief in compliance with Marcos Jr.’s directive.IMT
