The Department of Tourism (DOT-6) is hoping that airlines would resume their international flights to and from the Iloilo Aiport starting the second quarter of 2023.
International flight operations at the airport in Cabatuan town were stopped in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
DOT-6 Director Crisanta Marlene P. Rodriguez said efforts to resume international flights are underway.
“During their meeting last year, the executives of PAL (Philippine Airlines) and Cebu Pacific mentioned that they are focusing on domestic flights for now but I already asked our focal person (for airports and seaports) to prepare a report,” she told reporters during a press conference.
“And since (DOT) Under Secretary Shahlimar Tamano sits [as member of the] board with CAAP (Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines), we would like to push for the resumption of these flights already,” she added.
In a previous report by IMT NEWS, Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. said the Iloilo Airport is already prepared for the resumption of international flights.
The airport used to cater to flights to Hong Kong every Monday and Friday and Singapore every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.IMT
