The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has begun working on the proposed construction of two flyovers in Iloilo.

Engineer Rodney A. Gustilo of the Iloilo City District Engineering Office, in a press release, said the Jibao-an Flyover will be built along the Iloilo Circumferential Road crossing the Mandurriao-San Miguel Road in Mandurriao district, and the Buhang Flyover along the Iloilo Circumferential Road crossing the Iloilo-Capiz Road (new route) in Jaro district.

The proposed projects, which have a total allocation of P160 million, will involve the construction of two 2-lane, 300-lineal meter flyovers.

The projects will be funded under the 2019-2010 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

“[The flyovers] will provide an alternate connection to shorten travel time and abate traffic congestions along the major thoroughfares in the city, which are ‘chock-a-bloc’ every day, especially during rush hours,” said Gustilo.

Recently, a public consultation was conducted “to address the communities and the owners of the existing overhead and underground utilities that may be affected by the construction of proposed flyover projects.” It was attended by various stakeholders.

“These structures will serve as iconic transportation structure for the Ilonggos to emulate and traffic woes will finally be lessened when the construction of these flyovers commence,” said Gustilo.

“Once completed, this will serve as a milestone for the DPWH and its commitment to provide quality, safer and environment-friendly public infrastructure facilities that will improve the life of every Filipino,” he added.IMT
