The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6) has completed and turned over a total of 108 health care rooms to the Iloilo City Government for COVID-19 cases in the city and neighboring towns.
Since December 2020, DPWH-6 Regional Director Tiburcio DL Canlas said the agency has completely built six healthcare facilities for Iloilo City with the total allocation of P103.092 million.
The said facilities, built in Brgy. Sooc in Arevalo district, included the following: one isolation/quarantine facility for COVID-19 patients amounting to P12.365 million; one off-site dormitory for medical and health professionals in the amount of P12.375 million; one medical healthcare facility for COVID-19 patients and healthcare professionals (2 units isolation/quarantine facilities) costing P25.952 million; and two units community-based and hospital-based healthcare facilities (modular hospital) for COVID-19 patients and healthcare professionals worth P51.4 million.
Each facility is equipped with necessary amenities such as air-conditioned rooms with individual comfort rooms, sanitation area, electrical system, water tanks, and stand-by generators, according to Canlas.
“In December 2020, we had provided one Isolation/Quarantine Facility with 16 air-conditioned rooms for COVID-19 patients, male and female nurse quarters, and nurse station. At the same time, we had provided one off-site dormitory with 16 air-conditioned, 32-bed capacity rooms with comfort rooms, living and dining areas, kitchen and laundry area,” he said.
He added that in October 2021, they had turned-over two units of isolation/quarantine facilities converted as medical healthcare facilities with 32 air-conditioned rooms for COVID-19 patients and healthcare professionals.
In January this year, DPWH also turned over two units of community-based and hospital-based (modular hospital) composed of 44 air-conditioned rooms for COVID-19 patients and healthcare providers.
The said modular hospital is complete with amenities and equipped with high-flow oxygen machines to secure the safety of moderate, severe and critical COVID-19 patients.
“With these healthcare facilities, we are hopeful that we can augment the increasing demand for emergency care in Iloilo City,” Canlas said.Lilibeth French/PIA6-Iloilo
