President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered a holistic approach to tackle the country’s flood problems, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.
“Utos ni Presidente that we have to address actually ‘yung mga flood control projects natin,” DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said in an interview.
“That they (projects) should be resilient and implemented holistically kasi alam naman natin na engineering solution is just one of the components to address ngayon itong mga flood mitigation problems because of the climate change phenomenon,” he added.
Bonoan said they are planning to construct three dams in the Sierra Madre mountains to contain floodwaters and regulate their flow, reducing the risk of flash floods in Metro Manila.
“Dito sa Metro Manila, dapat siguro tingnan kung pwede nating magawan ng mga infrastructure facilities that will impound water in the watershed,” the DPWH chief said.
The DPWH is also pursuing the Pasig-Marikina Flood Control Program and rehabilitating 37 regional pumping stations, 15 of which are already completed, with the rest anticipated to be finished within the year.
“These pumping stations have been there long time ago and kailangan natin ma-increase ‘yung carrying capacity nila, ‘yung pumping capacity,” said Bonoan.President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered a holistic approach to tackle the country’s flood problems, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.IMT
