Senator Franklin Drilon has urged the public to protect the Iloilo Esplanade and other projects implemented in Iloilo.
The Ilonggo senator led the inauguration of four new sections of the Iloilo Esplanade, a landscaped riverside park, on July 27.
“I appeal to the Ilonggos to take care of this,” he said.
“I urge the Iloilo City police to be more vigilant in arresting those people who commit vandalism and steal streetlights,” Drilon further said.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the Iloilo City Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) had already deployed 11 bike patrollers to the Iloilo Esplanade.
Aside from looking after the Iloilo Esplande, the bike patrollers were also trained to guide tourists visiting the linear park.
The new sections of the Iloilo Esplanade stretch from the Iloilo Bridge or the Diversion Bridge to Muelle Loney in the City Proper.
The completion of the four sections brought to 8.1 kilometers the total length of the esplanade.
The first phase of the Iloilo Esplanade was officially opened to the public in August 2012.
It covers 1.2 km. from Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue to Carpenter’s Bridge.IMT
