Former Ilonggo senator Franklin Drilon is not running for any position in the May 2025 midterm elections.
In a BNC (Bilyonaryo News Channel) interview on Wednesday, Sept. 25, Drilon said he has no plans of seeking a political comeback.
Drilon, whose stint as an elected official ended in 2022, admitted that he “has been asked to go back to the Senate.”
“I keep on telling myself—assuming I win, by 2032, I’ll be 85 by that time…I’ll retire anyway so why not retire now and enjoy whatever remains in my active life,” he said.
“I was in public service for three decades, almost on a daily basis, I was under pressure—you cannot blame me if I’m taking my time to relax now,” Drilon added.
According to the former Senate President, he is “proud” of what he has done and of his record as a public servant.
Drilon first entered the Senate in 1995 and he became Senate President from 2000 to 2006, and from 2013 to 2016.
Before he was elected senator, Drilon was appointed as secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) under the administrations of Corazon Aquino and Fidel V. Ramos.IMT
