Councilor Rommel Duron has apologized for the “new burdens” caused by the implementation of the Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) in Iloilo City.

“Pasensya gid sa naapektuhan and I admit my mistakes. If needed, I will sponsor an ordinance to repeal the LPTRP ordinance for the good of the city and the province,” he said in his speech during the inaugural session of the 11th Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) on Tuesday, July 5.

Duron sponsored the SP’s adoption of the Department of Transportation (DOTr)-sponsored traffic route plan.

According to him, the city submitted two LPTRP proposals. The first one allows first town public utility jeepneys (PUJs) to enter the city but was denied by the Department of Transportation DOTr.

“But just to comply with the LPTRP, I was thinking that we have to submit it just to solve the colorum problems. But, it imposes new burdens to commuters, single moms, students, and small farmers,” he said.

“We should resolve to exert all our strength and courage in carrying these burdens,” Duron stressed.

Colorum vehicles are those operating without a franchise permit or outside their franchise area.

Last week, City Mayor Jerry Treñas issued an executive order suspending the implementation of LPRTP for 45 days starting on Friday, July 8.IMT
