Due to several complaints from the commuting public regarding fare overcharging by tricycle drivers and operators, Councilor Romel Duron sought to amend the city’s 21-year old ordinance.

Duron, chairman of the Committee on Transportation and Public Utilities, said it is high time to revisit the ordinance passed in 2000, which sets the regular fare for tricycle units in the city at P3.50.

On Tuesday, Nov. 9, the City Council passed on first reading the proposed measure and was referred to Duron’s committee.

“Makaluluoy gid ang aton nga mga traysikol drivers and operators at the same ang mga pasahero nga ginasukot sang sobra sobra,” said Duron.

The Metro Iloilo City Federated Tricycle Owners and Drivers Association earlier proposed a P15 minimum fare for the first two kilometres. They also agreed to come up with a uniform fare.

Duron said it will be the Iloilo City Tricycle Franchising Regulatory Board, chairman is Mayor Jerry P., that will recommend the fare rate after consultation with various stakeholders.IMT
