Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas urged all winning candidates in the October 30 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to undergo drug testing before they assume their respective posts.
This is in line with the city government’s campaign against illegal drugs, Treñas said in a statement.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) set a maximum three-week transition period for the newly elected village officials from the incumbents.
Treñas also called on the officials to support all anti-illegal drug operations in their respective barangays.
“I expect you to stop any drug activities in Iloilo City or elsewhere. Your election as barangay official will not and does not offer any protection for you,” he said.
The mayor warned: “I will not hesitate to give full and complete support to the PNP (Philippine National Police), PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) or any unit to conduct drug operations in your barangay.”
“My support to the campaign against illegal drugs remains unequivocal,” Treñas stressed.IMT
