A former village official in the town of San Rafael, Iloilo was sentenced to two years in prison for facilitating the issuance of fake driver’s licenses.
The accused, Mary Jane Bama, was found guilty by a municipal trial court of five counts of falsification by a private individual under Article 172, Paragraph 1 in relation to Article 171 of the Revised Penal Code.
The then treasurer of Barangay Ilongbukid was arrested in an entrapment operation conducted by the San Rafael police station and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in March last year.
Aside from imprisonment, Basa was also ordered by the court to pay P5,000 fine for her illegal activities.
Mendoza also commended LTO-6 for their efforts to rid their offices of illegal activities, including filing charges and ensuing legal offensive.IMT
