Face-to-face classes in some schools in Iloilo City are suspended on Monday, Jan. 13, due to the scheduled National Rally for Peace of religious group Iglesia ni Cristo (INC).

The suspension of classes was ordered by City Mayor Jerry Treñas through an executive order (EO) issued on Saturday, Jan. 11.

“Upon the recommendation of the Public Order and Safety Management Office of the Iloilo City Government, face-to-face classes shall be suspended on the said date,” EO No. 005, Series of 2025 stated.

The rally will be held at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand from 6 in the morning to 6 in the evening. It is expected to be attended by about 30,000 members of INC with around 400 vehicles.

According to the EO, INC “requested for the temporary closure of Muelle Loney Street starting from corner M. Peralta Street, where the [grandstand] is situated up to the corner of Muelle Loney -Zamora Street.”

The affected schools are as follows:

▪️Iloilo Central Elementary School
▪️Assumption Iloilo
▪️SPED Integrated School for Exceptional Children
▪️St. Paul University Iloilo (Senior High School)
▪️Hua Siong College of Iloilo (Main Campus)
▪️Iloilo Sun Yat Sen High School
▪️Phinma University of Iloilo (Basic Education Department and Senior High School)
▪️San Jose Catholic School
▪️Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus
▪️Fort San Pedro National High School
▪️A. Montes I kag II Elementary School
▪️Other pre-school and high schools within the Iloilo City Proper area

“In lieu of the suspension of face-to-face classes, respective school heads are highly encouraged to adopt alternative modes of learning,” the EO stated.

“The suspension of classes for the tertiary level of the above-enumerated schools shall be at the discretion of the respective school heads,” it added.

The rally aims to “express the members’ sentiments to maintain peace in our community the entire country.”IMT
