Farmers can sell their palay directly to the National Food Authority (NFA) for better prices, Malacañang said.
Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro denied reports that rice importation has been driving down domestic palay prices.
Farmers should coordinate with local government units (LGUs) to bring their palay to NFA buying stations, Castro said in a press briefing on Tuesday, March 18.
She referred to Department of Agriculture (DA) records showing low rice imports recently, suggesting that local traders may be influencing palay prices.
The Palace official also addressed farmers’ concerns about transportation, stating that the DA is procuring trucks for hauling palay. The DA is currently conducting a bidding process, and once trucks are available, farmers can sell their palay directly to the NFA.IMT
