A fire hit a residential area in Magsaysay Village, La Paz district, Iloilo City on Monday afternoon, Oct. 14.

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the fire damaged 19 houses, of which 17 were totally destroyed and two were partially gutted.

The fire affected 27 families based on the 5 p.m. report released by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

“The gymnasium has been designated as the evacuation center for the displaced families,” Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said in a statement.

“CSWDO already brought immediate relief assistance including food and non-food items for the affected residents. Our community kitchen is also being prepared to provide hot meals for those in need,” he added.

The fire, which reached the third alarm, broke out at 2:31 p.m. and was declared out at 3:51 p.m.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) pegged the estimated cost of damage at P450,000.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated while no deaths or injuries have been reported.IMT
