Parts of Iloilo City were flooded on Wednesday, July 17, following heavy rains caused by a low-pressure area (LPA).
According to a report released by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), 53 barangays were affected by flooding as of 8:15 p.m.
Of the flood-affected villages in the city, 16 were in Molo, 10 in Mandurriao, 9 in City Proper, 8 in Jaro, and 5 each in La Paz and Lapuz.
CDRRMO advised the public to “monitor advisories and be vigilant of these ever-changing weather conditions.”
In Iloilo province, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised an orange rainfall warning over the towns of Concepcion, San Dionisio, Batad, Estancia, Balasan, Carles, and Ajuy at 8 p.m.
Based on PAGASA’s rainfall warning system, orange means “15-30 mm of intense rain within an hour which may continue up to the next two hours.”
A yellow rainfall warning was hoisted over the towns of Sara, Lemery, San Rafael, Barotac Viejo, Banate, Anilao, Barotac Nuevo, Dumangas, Zarraga, Iloilo City, Leganes, Oton, Tigbauan, Guimbal, Miagao, San Joaquin, Igbaras, Tubungan, Leon, Alimodian, San Miguel, Santa Barbara, Pavia, Cabatuan, Maasin, Janiuay, Mina, New Lucena, Pototan, Dingle, and Badiangan.
These areas “may experience 7.5 to 15 mm of heavy rains in one hour which may continue up to the next two hours”
LPA was last monitored over the coastal waters of Guiuan, Eastern Samar (11.0°N, 125.9°E).IMT
