Residents of Barangay Candual in Pan-ay town flashed smiles and broke into cheers as they received the relief goods from PLDT Smart Foundation (PSF), Jan. 9, after typhoon Ursula left them affected on Christmas Day last year.
The foundation distributed 500 relief packs to residents at Justice Jose Hontiveros Memorial School, a public elementary school of the village, in the presence of municipal, barangay and school officials.
The packs included food items and drinking water, among others.
Candual Punong Barangay Mabini Besana thanked PSF for the first – ever relief assistance to the barangay in the aftermath of the typhoon.
“We are privileged and honored to be PLDT Smart Foundation’s chosen area for their outreach program,” he said in Hiligaynon during a program.
The relief assistance distribution was complemented by a full meal feeding activity of the Alagang Kapatid Foundation which served at least 500 residents.
PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications Inc., Consumer Sales Group senior vice president and head Alex Caeg also initiated the donation of a mobile public address system for the barangay.
The group has the support of its regional distributor, One World, as well as its provincial distributor, KOKS, and Trade Marketing employees in bringing the PSF’s outreach activity to typhoon affected areas.
In Aklan, more than 350 recipients from New Washington town also received relief packs from the foundation.PIA-Capiz
