A fresh college graduate was killed while a dozen were injured in a vehicular accident in Barangay Gines, Janiuay town, Iloilo on Thursday night, Jan. 26.

The fatality was identified as Kristian Alutaya, 25, of Barangay Matag-ub, Janiuay. He died while being treated at the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital.

Police Staff Sergeant (PSSg) Eddie Roncal of the town’s police station said the victim sustained fatal head injuries and scratches.

Alutaya’s motorcycle with a sidecar was among the vehicles rammed by a Ceres Liner bus that allegedly lost its brakes.

The victim was working at a water refilling station as a delivery boy while processing his papers for a possible seafarer’s job.

Those injured were residents of Lambunao, Pototan, Janiuay and Cabatuan towns. They were brought to a hospital for medical treatment.

According to Roncal, the driver, who was identified as Jay-R Yco, 38 of Ajuy, Iloilo, lost control of the bus after its brakes allegedly malfunctioned.

The Tapaz, Capiz- bound bus, which was carrying 33 passengers, plowed into 15 vehicles including a mixer truck, pick-up trucks, motorcyles, and a delivery van.

Yco was unhurt and placed under police custody. His company vowed to shoulder the medical expenses of the victims and provide assistance to the family Alutaya.IMT
