Calling it a “game changer” in the delivery of economic development and social justice, Fifth District Representative Raul “Boboy” Tupas led on Thursday, Oct. 10, the ceremonial groundbreaking for the Sara, Iloilo-Maayon, Capiz bypass road project worth almost half a billion pesos.
A total of P280 million has been disbursed so far for the project and Congress has recently approved the allocation of P150 million to complete the project next year
Tupas said that the 15-kilometer road project is consistent with the “Build, Build, Build” program of President Rodrigo Duterte that seeks to promote economic development all over the country.
Once completed, travel time from Sara to Roxas City will be reduced to only one hour and a half.
The ceremony was attended by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Director Lea Delfinado, Sara Mayor Jon Aying and other town officials.
Meanwhile, Tupas said that the 16-kilometer Barotac Viejo-Lemery road is already half way done.
A total of P180 million has been disbursed for the project and another P200 million is due for release next year
The road project is under the convergence program having sourced the fund from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in collaboration with the DPWH.IMT
