Iloilo First District Representative Janette Garin described as “very malicious” the accusation that she “led” the collection of signatures to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte.
The accusation was made by the vice president’s brother, Davao City Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, who called the impeachment “baseless” and “political prosecution.”
“The sinister maneuvering of certain lawmakers, led by Rep. Garin, to hastily collect signatures and push for the immediate approval and transmittal of this baseless impeachment case is a clear act of political persecution,” he said in s statement.
In response, Garin said: “Whoever fed him the info should come out and face me. Who am I to maneuver my colleagues?”
“We were invited to a party consultation where officers explained the articles of impeachment. I was present, though late. I signed since it’s my constitutional duty,” she explained.
Garin was among the 215 lawmakers who signed an impeachment complaint against the second highest official in he country.IMT
