For two years in a row, the province of Guimaras reaped the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award.
The island province, under Governor JC Rahman Nava’s leadership, is among the 41 provinces in the country that qualified for the award this year.
“The [province] has once again proven its dedication to excellent governance, transparency, and efficient public service,” the provincial government said in a press release.
Last year, Guimaras also received the same award, which is considered as the highest recognition given by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to outstanding local government units (LGUs).
Nueva Valencia, one of the towns in the province, likewise clinched the award.
The SGLG is an “institutionalized award, incentive, honor, and recognition-based program which aims to continue to uphold its commitment to bringing about inclusive and people-oriented reforms that will enable the LGUs to foster a culture of good governance amid the challenges in the local government landscape.”
The Seal carries on with the “All-In” assessment approach, where an LGU must pass all ten governance areas: Financial Administration and Sustainability; Disaster Preparedness; Social Protection and Sensitivity; Health Compliance and Responsiveness; Sustainable Education; Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness; Safety, Peace and Order; Environmental Management; Tourism, Heritage Development, Culture and Arts; and Youth Development.IMT
