A Facebook user named “Arnold Delmoro” offered a P25-million bounty to those who could kill Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.
In the comment section of a post made by radio station Aksyon Radyo-Iloilo, the Facebook user said: “I’m offering 25 million pesos to those who can assasinate Mayor Jerry Treñas.”
The post was related to the qurantine status of the city, which is currently experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Delmoro immediately clarified that he lost control of his account to an unknown hacker.
According to him, he already sought the help of the Anti-Cybercrime Unit of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI-6) to identify the hacker.
“I totally deny it. Makita man sa mga previous post ko nga May 17 na-hack na [FB account] and na-report ko na ina,” said Delmoro.
“This is not a joke. Indi ni ‘ya lahog-lahog ‘ya, delikado ni ‘ya,” he stressed.
In a statement, Treñas said he is already coordinating with authorities regarding the threat and he would “file any and such cases as may be warranted under the circumstances.”
“It is very disheartening to see accounts being hacked and writing comments like this as we try to do the best to serve our beloved Ilonggos,” the mayor said.
“I have been serving the public for decades, and this is the first time I have seen a death threat as vulgar as this,” Treñas added.IMT
