Several towns in the province of Iloilo were flooded due to heavy rains spawned by a low-pressure area (LPA).

Flash floods, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), hit San Enrique, Sara, Batad, San Dionisio, Ajuy, Banate, Bingawan, and the component city of Passi on Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Lemery also experienced flooding but was not included in the PDRRMO’s initial list of affected areas.

Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. visited San Enrique and Passi City on Thursday morning, Dec. 3, to check on the barangays that were flooded.

The flooding damaged some houses, rice fields, and roads. It also caused landslides.

No casualties were reported in the flood-stricken areas.

In a press conference, Defensor said the provincial government is currently undertaking long-term solutions to address the flooding problem especially in the northern part of the province.

The LPA, as of 10 a.m. of Thursday, was last seen in the vicinity of Poblacion, Albay.

In a report by news site INQUIRER.net, PAGASA weather specialist Shelly Ignacio said the LPA is less likely to develop into a tropical depression.IMT
