The observance of Holy Week, or commonly referred to as Semana Santa, in Western Visayas this year was “generally peaceful,” according the Police Regional Office (PRO-6).

In a press release, PRO-6 said no crime incidents related to Holy Week, which started on April 13 (Palm Sunday) and ended on April 20 (Easter Sunday), were recorded.

The peaceful observance was attributed by PRO-6 to their “close coordination and collaboration among church authorities, local government units (LGUs), Philippine National Police (PNP), force multipliers and volunteer groups, and other government agencies.”

“Likewise, PRO-6’s extensive information dissemination, significantly aided by various media platforms, has provided essential guidance to the public on safety measures, regular reminders, practical tips, and proven best practices aimed for a secure travel, a peaceful and memorable vacations, and seamless conduct of religious activities,” it added.

Police Brigadier General Jack L Wanky, PRO-6 director, commended the dedication of their personnel.

Their efforts, he stressed, enabled respective units to effectively implement their security plans for the safety and security of the general public throughout the Lenten season.

“We sincerely thank the local government units, government agencies, barangay officials, barangay tanods, rescue groups and force multipliers for the services they selflessly rendered resulting in a safe, peaceful and orderly 2025 Lenten celebration,” Wanky said.

“May this feat continue as we strive to maintain a safer Western Visayas conducive to live, invest and do business,” he added.IMT
