Taxi driver Anthony Barredo Aguirre received a total of P50 thousand in cash rewards after he returned a backpack filled with money.
The Iloilo City Government and Iloilo Second District Representative Mike Gorriceta handed over P20,000 and P30,000, respectively, to Aguirre on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
The 52-year-old driver from Pavia town was also declared by Mayor Jerry Treñas as an “adopted son of Iloilo City” through an executive order (EO).
Aguirre did not hesitate to bring the backpack containing P2.4 million to Police Station 8 in Iloilo City on Jan. 18.
The backpack was left by his passenger whom he ferried from a hotel to Lapuz Wharf in the city.
“Such honest actions by our drivers must be commended as they highlight our efforts to make the city safe and reliable for residents, commuters and tourists,” EO No. 012, Series of 2025 stated.
Aguirre has two children – a graduating social work student at Central Philippine University and a high school student.IMT
