Senator Risa Hontiveros, who spearheaded the Senate investigation into illegal offshore gaming operators in the Philippines, has been recognized by PeopleAsia magazine as one of its “People of the Year” for 2025.
In its announcement, PeopleAsia praised Hontiveros for her “bold, tireless, and no-nonsense crusade” against illegal offshore gaming operations.
“From her bold, tireless and no-nonsense crusade against illegal offshore gaming operators to pushing for meaningful and relevant legislative measures… Sen. Risa Hontiveros… is putting everyone’s taxes to good use,” PeopleAsia wrote.
The magazine also commended the senator for her “consistency on sensitive issues” such as human rights, calling it “a hallmark of her public service.”
For her part, Hontiveros thanked PeopleAsia for the recognition.
