Senator Risa Hontiveros has acknowledged the right of suspended Bamban Mayor Alice Guo to seek redress from Supreme Court to annul the Senate subpoena against her.
“Our courts are open to all individuals, regardless of nationality. Kaya kahit hindi siya Pilipino, may karapatan pa rin si Mayor Alice Guo na pumunta ng Supreme Court,” Hontiveros said in a press statement on Thursday, July 10.
She said her office is awaiting a copy of Guo’s petition.
“On our part, at the Senate, the law is clear: ignoring a subpoena has consequences. Adhering to a subpoena has never been optional,” according to her.
On Wednesday, Guo asked the high court to set aside the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality’s subpoena for her to appear at a hearing on illegal POGO operations.
“Petitioner Guo, a child, a daughter, a woman, a public servant, and one with family and name of her own, has already been adjudged guilty of all sorts of crimes. Her Constitutionally guaranteed freedoms and rights have been repeatedly violated, ignored, and/or disregarded,” her 78-page petition for certiorari read.IMT
