The proposal to upgrade the Iloilo International Airport will receive funding under the Aviation Transport Infrastructure Program of the national government.

Congress allocated P190 million in this year’s national budget for the improvement of the airport in the town of Cabatuan.

The 2024 budget will also finance the Kalibo International Airport in Aklan (P581 million) and 2O other airports in the country.

All in all, Congress allocated P7.5 billion this year “for the construction, rehabilitation, and improvement of various airports and navigational facilities, including the procurement of equipment.”

“The new funding allocations per airport are itemized in the 2024 General Appropriations Law,” Congressman Luis Campos Jr. said in a statement.

In December last year, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista said rehabilitation and expansion of the Iloilo airport is among their priority projects.

“We notice that there is really a need to improve it,” he said during an economic briefing in Iloilo City.

The proposed project “could help the economy of Iloilo and the neighboring areas and also attract more visitors and tourists,” the transportation secretary added.IMT
