The Iloilo City Government’s Local Economic Enterprise Office (LEEO) has surpassed its target collection for 2024.
According to LEEO head Maricel Mabaquiao, they collected P100 million from public markets and parking areas in the city last year.
The total collection was higher by 22.85 percent than its target of P81.4 million.
In December alone, LEEO’s collection reached P9.4 million, exceeding its P6.7 million target for the month.
LEEO supervises the Iloilo Terminal Market, Iloilo Central Market and five other public markets, which are currently being renovated.
The city government’s pay parking program accounted for P8.9 million of the 2024 income. The amount was higher than its target of P7.8 million.
City Mayor Jerry Treñas commended LEEO for its “impressive achievements.”
“This is the first time that LEEO has achieved this milestone. In the past, the office consistently faced deficits, struggling to pay salaries and even utility bills,” he said.
“These results show the dedication of our LEEO team and the cooperation of our market vendors, pay parking personnel, and the entire community,” the mayor added.
Treñas is expecting that the ongoing renovation of the city’s public markets would “further increase our income, enabling us to pay off other loans.”
“While our Central and Terminal Markets have no loans due to the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, the income from other markets will help us achieve better financial stability and provide even more services for our Ilonggo constituents,” he said.IMT
