The ceremonial destruction of 157 confiscated modified mufflers at the Iloilo Dinagyang Grandstand on Friday, May 17, serves as a warning to violating riders and motor vehicle owners who are fond of installing unauthorized ear-splitting devices.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas expressed anew his disdain against the use of aftermarket exhaust systems that contribute to noise pollution in the metro, especially at night.

“These confiscated, illegally modified mufflers had disrupted the peace and tranquility of our neighborhoods, especially at night. These are symbols of the non-compliance of some motorists with our local traffic regulations,” he said.

Of the total confiscations by the city’s law enforcement personnel since March 23, 119 were made by the Iloilo City Traffic Management Unit (ICTMU). The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) seized 31 illegally modified mufflers, and the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) seized seven more.

Treñas lauded the continued success of the city’s forces in implementing the amended Anti-Modified Muffler Ordinance No. 2023-071.

“The endeavor marks yet another significant achievement in the city government’s ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and promote a harmonious living environment for all city residents and visitors,” Treñas said.

He also enjoined the public’s cooperation. He encouraged everyone to observe road rules and regulations as the City Government continues to move towards a safer environment for motorists, commuters, and travelers.Iloilo City PIO
