The Iloilo City Government and the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the Project Namit Gid: A Multi-Stakeholders’ Collaboration for llonggo’s Batchoy.
The project will “focus on the history and cultural significance of batchoy in shaping the origins, evolution, and its role in shaping Iloilo City’s gastronomic identity.”
It “aims to assess the perceived capacity enhancement needs of the batchoy businesses as well as enhance the value chain practices and resource management for batchoy production.”
Batchoy is one of Iloilo’s signature dishes. This noodle soup is made with meke noodles and pork stock with pork meat, liver, and offal.
The agreement was signed by City Mayor Jerry Treñas and UPV Chancellor Clement C. Camposano along with UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies (CIDS) Executive Director Dr. Rosalie Alcala-Hall and Center for Western Visayan Studies Director Frances Anthea Redison.
The ceremonial MOA signing on Sept. 3 was facilitated by MICE Director Ms. Lea Victoria Lara and Atty. Reinhart Pahila from the Mayor’s Office.IMT
