The Iloilo City Government is encouraging property owners to develop their idle lands in the metropolis to accommodate the growing demand of business process outsourcing (BPO) firms and other companies needing spaces for their operations.

“According to Leechiu, a reputable property consultant, the demand for office and BPO spaces in Iloilo City has now outpaced the supply. This is excellent news for our city, signifying the influx of investments and the creation of more job opportunities for Ilonggos in 2025,” Mayor Jerry Treñas said in a statement.

The mayor said buildings that cater to BPO operations in the city are enjoying “significant incentives, including all tax-free operations and exemptions from real property tax (RPT),” while BPO companies have no business taxes.

He said the city government is always ready to have their properties declared as Philippine Economic Zone Authority zones to “provide even greater incentives for investors and developers.”

“This development opens up countless possibilities for 2025, as the need for more office spaces signals the influx of new companies that will bring with them thousands of job opportunities for Ilonggos. Such progress not only boosts our local economy but also enhances the quality of life for our residents by creating stable and high-paying employment options,” he added.

Lawyer Fydah Marie Sabando, department head of the Iloilo City Data Assessment and System Management Office (DASMO), said around 107 BPO companies are operating in the city, employing at least 45,000 workers.

Iloilo City, she said in a past interview, houses the biggest information technology park in Western Visayas. (PNA)
