The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) on Wednesday, July 17, unanimously approved a resolution totally banning Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) in Iloilo City.
The resolution was authored by Councilor Rommel Duron, chairperson of SP’s Committee on Energy and Public Utilities.
“POGO or IGL’s purpose of its business operation in Iloilo City will inevitably destroy the reputation and dignity of Iloilo City and its people,” the resolution stated.
According to Duron the entry POGOs, now known as Internet Gaming Licensees (IGLs), resulted in the proliferation of criminal activities in the country.
The total ban on POGOs and local gaming agents in the city aligns with the executive order issued by Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, detailing the policy of the city government against illegal offshore gaming operations.
The newly approved resolution also endorsed the passage of House Bills 5082 and 1197, which both seek to revoke existing licenses and prohibit future POGO firms from operating in the country.IMT
