Iloilo City was once again recognized as one of the Most Bicycle-Friendly Cities in the Philippines and awarded as Gold Awardee by the Mobility Awards for the third time.

The recognition was conferred to the city during the Mobility Awards 2023 Announcement of Winners on Friday, Nov. 24.

“This recognition is a great pride for Iloilo City and its people. This is an inspiration for us to strengthen our commitment to promoting bike culture in our community,” said Mayor Jerry P. Treñas.

The Mobility Awards seek to recognize proactive leaders and entities providing enabling conditions and infrastructure for sustainable and active mobility that caters to the needs of every Filipino commuter.

For years now, the Iloilo City Government continues to expand infrastructures by connecting its bike lane in Diversion Road throughout the urban center.

The city is also active in working with different government agencies and establishments in putting bike racks to encourage the use of bicycles in going to work and exploring the city.

Treñas acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the city government and its people that paved the way in getting the awards for three consecutive years.

He also thanked former senate president Frank Drilon for his continuous support to the city’s vision of making Iloilo City a premier bike-friendly destination.

Being a two-time Bike Lane awardee, Iloilo City was also chosen to host the National Bike Day Awards and Recognition from Nov. 24 to 26.

“We are happy with these achievements, but there is more work to do. We will continue to invest in infrastructure and programs and work with neighboring local government units to promote biking, not just as a means of recreation but as a mode of transportation,” Treñas said.PR
