Iloilo City has recorded its first dengue-related death this year, the City Health Office (CHO) confirmed on Monday, July 22.

The fatality was a 69-year-old woman from Barangay Tabuc Suba in Jaro district.

According to CHO head Dr. Anabelle Tang, the woman was in the critical stage of dengue when she was brought to a medical facility last week.

The victim, she said, was also infected with leptospirosis and had kidney disease.

From January 1 to July 20 this year, CHO logged 273 cases of dengue, a viral infection that spreads from mosquitoes to people.

To prevent dengue, CHO urged the public to be on high alert and take preventive measures against the disease.

“We have to be on high alert because it’s the rainy season,” Tang said.IMT
