Iloilo city, province shift to GCQ

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) has downgraded the quarantine status of Iloilo City and Iloilo province.

Starting on Saturday, Oct. 16 until the end of the month, Iloilo will be under general community quarantine (GCQ), the second to the lowest quarantine classification.

Iloilo City is currently under GCQ with heightened restrictions while and Iloilo province is under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

Mayor Jerry Treñas thanked the IATF for lowering the city’s quarantine classification.

“We need to ramp up our vaccination, strictly observe the minimum health protocols so that we lessen the risk of infection, continue our testing and isolate the positive patients so that by November we can be classified under MGCQ,” he said.

As of Wednesday, Oct. 13, the city has recorded 21,263 confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which 19,660 have recovered, 548 have died, and 1,049 are active.

The province, on the other hand, has logged 33,127 cases since the pandemic broke out in March last year. Of the figure, 27,973 have recovered, 856 have died, and 4,291 are active.

Also under GCQ are the provinces of Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Aklan and Antique.
