The Iloilo City Government sees the need to beef up its information drive to help the public better understand the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which already infected over 17 thousand people in the whole Western Visayas region.
A survey commissioned by the city government showed that majority of Ilonggos believe that they are prone to the dreaded disease that was first detected in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019.
Many respondents also admitted that they practiced self-medication when they experienced flu-like symptoms, while only a few submitted themselves to COVID-19 testing.
The survey involved 200 respondents from the city’s seven districts – Jaro, Mandurriao, La Paz, Lapuz, Molo, Arevalo, and City Proper. It was conducted by Random Access Consultants Inc. (RACI).
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the result of the survey is valuable as it will serve as their basis for their plans to be crafted to flatten the COVID-19 infection curve.
“Kon tan-awon ta ang resulta, kinanglan ta gid nga pasangkaron ang aton information drive para matudluan ang mga pumuluyo kon ano ang dapat nga himuon para malikawan ang paglapta sang sakit,” Treñas told reporters.
As of Nov. 6, the city recorded 4,106 confirmed cases of COVID-19, of which 3,672 have recovered and 97 have died.IMT
