Face-to-face classes in Iloilo City will be automatically suspended if the forcasted heat index reaches 41 degrees Celsius (°C).

City Mayor Jerry Trenas issued an executive order (EO) setting a new heat index threshold for the automatic suspension of in-person classes.

“When the forecasted heat index [by PAGASA] has reached 41°C, respective principals, school heads and/or administrators of pre-school up to senior high school within the territorial jurisdiction of Iloilo City shall automatically suspend face-to-face classes,” EO No. 024-A stated.

“Following the suspension automatic suspension of face-to+face classes, respective principals, school heads, and/or administrators are mandated to adopt an alternative delivery mode of instruction (ADM,)” it further stated.

The EO encouraged school administrators and university presidents at the tertiary level to “adopt similar measures to ensure the safety and well-being of their respective learners or students.”

Meanwhile, when the forecasted heat index has reached 40°C and with due consideration to different and varying conditions of schools in the city, the respective school heads administrators and university presidents can adjust their class schedules.

They may “start early in the morning and end before 12 noon, then shift to an alternative mode of classes in the afternoon.”

“In the best interest of the health and well-being of the students, [they] shall have the discretion to shift to an ADM,” the EO stated.IMT
