Alexie Mae Caimoso-Brooks, Iloilo City’s representative to Miss Universe Philippines 2024, stood out in the National Costume Competition in Sultan Kudarat on Sunday, April 28.
The Ilongga beauty took one of the Top 3 spots in the pageant’s category. Other winners were Miss Southern California Jet Hammond, Miss Tacloban Tamara Ocier.
Created by Tata Blas-Pinuela, Alexie’s costume was inspired by “ugto-ugto,” an Ilonggo term for an orb-weaved spider.
The spider, according to Alexie’s team, symbolizes ingenuity. “Its gentle yet complex web reminds us how to be creative and persistent artisans, urging us to weave our dreams with meaning and precision.”
In a statement, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas congratulated Alexie and her team for their “extraordinary accomplishment.”
“With Tata Blas Pinuela’s exceptional talent and Alexie Brooks’ captivating representation, they have showcased the creative brilliance of Iloilo on a national stage,” he said.
“We applaud their remarkable achievement, and they have made Iloilo City incredibly proud,” the mayor added.
The coronation night is set on May 22 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Bay City, Pasay.IMT
