Iloilo City has remained the most competitive highly urbanized city (HUC) outside the National Capital Region (NCR).

In the overall ranking for HUCs in the country, the city  —  Western Visayas’ economic center — secured the fifth spot.

The city received the award during the recently concluded Philippine Creative Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Congress by the Department of Trade and Industry-Competitiveness Bureau (DTI-CB).

The city was No. 1 in Government Efficiency., No. 5 in both Resiliency and Innovation; No. 7 in Economic Dynamism; and No. 9 in Infrastructure.

In a statement, Mayor Jerry Treñas expressed elation over the city’s achievements.

“This is a testament of our teamwork and our resilience. Everyone worked so hard. Thank you for your hard work for Iloilo City,” he said.

Treñas was represented by Lea Lara, director of the city’s MICE Center, during the awarding ceremony in Manila.IMT
