The Sangguniang Panlungsod has approved an ordinance prohibiting skaters from using streets and sidewalks in Iloilo City.
Authored by Councilor Johny Young, the ordinance specifically bans skateboards, roller skates and roller blades to avoid accidents.
There are designated areas in the city, according to Young, where skateboarding, rollerskating, and rollerblading are allowed.
“The possibility of meeting an accident as a result of individuals using skateboards, roller skates and roller blades along sidewalks, streets and other thoroughfares in Iloilo City is not remote,” the ordinance stated.
