The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) approved on Monday, April 22, a resolution placing the entire city of Iloilo under a state of calamity due to “water scarcity.”
The state of calamity declaration was recommended by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC).
The move will allow the city government to use more than P12.5 million from its quick response fund to help those affected residents.
Specifically, the amount will be used for “the procurement and delivery of water” to all barangays that experience shortage of water due to El Niño for three months.
According to CDRRMC, 23,230 persons or 23.33 percent of their projected population in 25 villages based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing are affected.
The number of the affected individuals exceeded the 15 percent requirement before a city can declare a state of calamity.IMT
