Iloilo City has been selected as the country’s official candidate for the ‘Creative City of Gastronomy’ title of the prestigious UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN).

The city’s unique culinary traditions and diverse food culture, according to Mayor Jerry Trenas, “make us a perfect fit for this honor.”

“I had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. Ivan Anthony Henares, Secretary General of the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines, and we are excited to showcase our city’s gastronomy on a global stage,” he said.

“This is a huge milestone for Iloilo City, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for our thriving food scene,” Trenas added.

UCCN was created in 2004 to promote cooperation with and among cities that have identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development.

It covers seven creative fields including gastronomy, crafts and folk art, design, film, literature, media arts and music.IMT
